Newland-Wood Fire Co. 59 of Stillwater captures first place parade award at HVVFA convention

June 2017

Congratulations to Newland-Wood Fire Company 59 of Stillwater for capturing first place in the parade at the 128th annual Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association Convention (HVVFA). The event was held in June in the Town and Queensbury and sponsored by the West Glens Fall Volunteer Fire Company. The theme of the 2017 parade was "Red, White, Blue and Sirens, Too." The fire company decorated their historic 1871 Button Steamer in the theme colors and added streamers and flowers. The fire team was also dressed in patriotic colors. Newland-Wood won First Best Firematic Theme for its efforts in the Mardi Gras parade. The convention also included a formal dress parade, a memorial service, meetings, awards and family events. The HVVFA encompasses volunteer fire departments in New York State from the Tappan Zee Bridge downstate to the Canadian border.
