Newland-Wood Fire Co. captures four awards at local summer competitions

July 20, 2012

Congratulations to the Newland-Wood Fire Co. of the Stillwater Fire Department, which captured four awards recently at two separate local competitions.

The volunteer unit, which dates back to 1865, competed at the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association annual convention, June 20-24, in Glens Falls. The department took home second place at the Mardi Gras for Best Firematic Theme which featured its antique apparatus 1871 Button Steamer. The department also placed second in the Dress Parade for Best Appearing Fire Unit Dress Uniform for groups 8-13 members.

Then on July 12-14, the Newland-Wood Fire Co. captured two more awards at the 85th annual convention of the Hudson Mohawk Volunteer Firefighters Association in Waterford. The department earned a first place trophy in the Best Firematic Theme category again for its steamer, and another first place award for Best Dressed Membership under 13 members.

Newland-Wood Co. President and Lt. Tracey Pommer said the company worked hard preparing for the events and is proud of its achievements.
