Hundreds of residents packed The Stillwater Area Community Center Sunday, April 17 for the village’s long-awaited Bicentennial 200th birthday bash.

The four-hour event included speeches, proclamations, history lessons, a free BBQ, magic show, children’s games, D.J., line dancing, fireworks, and of course, the cutting of the 200th birthday cake. Mayor Rick Nelson opened the ceremony with welcoming remarks, and was later joined by two former mayors Ernest Martin (1992-2015), David Rathbun (1979-1991), and John Herrick (1991-1992), and Mechanicville Mayor Dennis Baker.

Presenting proclamations honoring the village on three special occasion were New York State Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner and Stillwater Town Supervisor Ed Kinowski. Village resident Bonnie Minick, also a member of the Bicentennial Planning Committee, presented an historic video she created about the village past, present and future, while Town Historian Linda Palmeri created a wall display of historic photos, and Village Historian Linda Sanders spoke about the village’s long past.

The crowd enjoyed a magic show by Scott Jameson, and country music and line dancing courtesy of DJ Kevin Richards. Bicentennial Committee Chairwoman, Town Councilwoman and former Village Trustee Ellen Vomacka cut the 200th birthday cake while the crowd sang Happy Birthday Stillwater!
