The Stillwater Blockhouse held its annual 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony on Sept. 11 – the 12th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The event was held this year at the Stillwater Area Community Center due to weather.

Hosted by Historian Linda Sanders, residents gathered together to remember a friend and loved one, Dani Moore, who was lost in the on that tragic day in American history. The 9/11 invocation was given by Teaching Elder Richard Hoffman of the United Church. The Colors were displayed by Stillwater Boy Scout Troop 35. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Girls Scout Troop 1059. Chief Dennis Latham led the National Anthem.  There were remarks of the day from by Town Supervisor Ed Kinowski, village Mayor Ernest Martin, and Sean Shortell, representing U.S. Congressman Paul Tonko.

A Prayer of Remembrance was offered by Rev. Pamela Woodman, Pastor of the Malta Presbyterian Church. Don Porter played Amazing Grace on the bagpipes as members of the Town and Village Boards joined family members of Dani Moore’s in laying the memorial wreath. A prayer for our Nation was given by Ruling Elder Michael Crandell of the United Church. Taps were played by Eric Powers and Shawn Aycock of Stillwater Central School. The ceremony concluded with Chief Latham leading a rendition of God Bless America as the Boy Scouts retired the Colors. The benediction was given by T.E. Richard Hoffman.

Also present at the ceremony were members of the Arvin Heart Fire Department, the Newland-Wood Fire Department, the Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad and the Hoosic Valley Fire Department. Stillwater Will Never Forget!
