Stillwater residents help raise funds to fight breast cancer

A strong contingency of Stillwater residents were among 1,800 people who took part in the seventh annual Mechanicville-Stillwater Breast Cancer Walk on Sunday, Oct. 11. Many Stillwater residents walked in memory of Michele Minick Simoncavage – a 1983 Stillwater High School graduate who died of breast cancer. Following opening ceremonies at the Elks, walkers hit the streets of Mechanicville under gorgeous blue skies and looped around Tallmadge Park before returning to the Elks. Organizers said contributions were still coming in but that the event would likely raise about $40,000. The event has raised more than $200,000 over the last five years. Funds received are donated to The American Cancer Society, New York Oncology Hematology and Saratoga Hospital.
