Champlain Canal Notice to Mariners – Lock C-12 is Open

For the first time all year, boaters can traverse the entire Champlain Canal into Lake Champlain.

Great Loopers take note – this is a viable alternative to the Erie Canal if there are any issues with locks that prevent your passage to Lake Ontario.  Follow Lake Champlain to the Chambly Canal/St. Ours Canal to its junction with the St. Lawrence River.  However, there are travel restrictions on entering Canada from the USA (and vice-versa) during this time.   https://tc.canada.ca/en/covid-19-measures-updates-guidance-issued-transport-canada/guidelines-pleasure-craft-during-covid-19-pandemic .  If your boat’s clearance permits it, you might be able to follow the Erie Canal to Buffalo and thus avoid issues with border crossings.  http://www.canals.ny.gov/boating/bridgeheights.html
