Important snow removal notice from the village

The Village of Stillwater would like to remind residents this winter season that there is a law in effect regarding snow and ice removal. Village regulations require that all property owners maintain the sidewalks adjacent their property “in a safe condition” at all times.

The law states: “It shall in all cases be the duty of the owner of every lot or piece of land in the Village of Stillwater to keep the sidewalks adjoining his lot or piece of land in good repair and to remove and clean all snow and ice and other obstructions from such sidewalks.”

“It shall be unlawful for any persons to deposit, pile or otherwise dispose of snow and/or ice from private premises into streets and/or thoroughfares.”

“We would kindly ask that anyone who has access to off street parking please use it during snow storms to help our DPW crews do their job more efficiently,” said Mayor Ernest Martin. “As always, the safety of our citizens is our main concern.”

Snow Emergency

When a snow emergency is in effect, there is no parking on any Village streets so the DPW crews can clear the roadways of all snow. Designated parking areas are available for residents and should be utilized to prevent towing of vehicles.
