Public hearing Oct. 20 to consider village term limits

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Stillwater will hold a public meeting and hearing on October 20  at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall, 881 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater, NY, to consider adoption of proposed Local Law No. 4 of 2020 entitled “A Local Law to Enact Term Limits.”  The purpose of the local law is to impose term limits on the offices of the Village Mayor and Village Trustee such that no person shall be elected to a single office in more than three consecutive general elections. Election or appointment to a partial term of office to fill a vacancy shall not be counted against the proposed term limitations.  Any elected term of office held prior to the Village General Election of November 5, 2019 shall not be counted against the proposed term limitations.  The proposed terms limits applied to one office shall not prohibit an elective public officer from being elected to another and different elective office. At the aforesaid date, time and place, all interested persons will be heard.
