The Village Board of Trustees awarded a nearly $400,000 construction contract Tuesday night (September 18) for the long-awaited Route 4 sidewalk/storm sewer construction project leading to and from Stillwater Central School.

The lowest of eight bidders for the work was A.J. Catalfamo Construction of Hudson Falls with a bid of $397,276. The work is expected to begin in three to four weeks and be completed within 40 days.

The sidewalk project dates back to 2006 when the Vilage of Stillwater applied for the sidewalk grant through the Capital District Transportation Committee and the Chazen Engineering Company prepared an in depth improvement plan for sidwalks for the north end of the village to protect children walking to school every day. Part of that plan included 2,350 feet of new sidewalks and curbing on the east side of the road, and 2,000 feet along the west side of the road — traveling south from the school to meet the existing village sidewalks.

Village Trustees also heard the following reports/updates Tuesday night:

• Sewer Project Update: Sewer project engineers reported that the project is going well on Clinton Court, with roughly 60 days until scheduled completion.
• Fire Department Report: Crews responded to six alarms for month and participated in three drills
• Department of Public Works Report: Crews responded to a water main break on Lansing Road on August 22 and installed two new valves. There was second water main break in Clinton Court the week of September 13, with a boil water advisory issued September 15 DPW crews went door to door with the advisory for residents.
• Building Code Department Report: The department issued three building permits and one certificate of compliance since last meeting and one inspection was performed. There were no notices of violations issued in the village.
