Stillwater Village Mayor Rick Nelson, Village Board members and other officials joined local children for the official dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the former Major Dickinson Park now renamed Major Dickinson Childrens Park.

The village, with the assistance of former Mayor Ernest Martin, obtained a $50,000 state grant with the help of Senator Kathleen Marchione to give the park (known years ago as the “sand lot”) an overhaul. Volunteers from Momentive Services, Inc., who joined in the ribbon-cutting, begin Phase I of the renovation in August, removing the old and unsafe playground equipment to make room for new equipment. Phase II of the project, installing the new equipment, was completed in mid-September. The final phase of work occurred on Oct. 30. Volunteers from Momentive joined the Department of Public Works crew installing the toddler play section, new benches, picnic tables, solar motion lights for security, staining the pavilion, and more. Special thanks to Sen. Marchione, former Mayor Martin, Mementive and the village Playground Committee for these long-awaited improvements.
